Back To the Dorm Life

The trip from Oregon to Cali was awesome. Not only was I able to check out the pacific coast highway, but I saw some elk fighting in meadows and I went to this little that had a “GRAVITY HOUSE”, which turned out to be a building built on a slope. It was an optical illusion and a poor one. Being able to ride through the redwoods national park was cool too. I took a little detour into the woods and was able to see redwoods and the sunset over the pacific, just one of many beautiful moments of the trip. The trip from Oregon to San Francisco my first stop in Cali is eleven hours. So the first day I drove six to Eureka, California and stayed for the night.

Waking up early to get in touch with family and prepare for the long day to San Francisco I got a Mcdonalds breakfast and got on the road. I arrived later in the evening I knew it when I was crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. It is gorgeous, although with the weather hard to get on a clear day, going across the Golden Gate Bridge similar to driving through a cloud. All you could see around you were the cars and the bridge. I felt like the Tanners from full house riding from one end to the other like I was really living the life. The weather was nice so after getting some fuel for Issy and finding a couple places for us to check out and stay we took a mini tour of the city. I think it’s interesting how it’s built on a hill riding though a city that’s built like that is fun but rough at times. I was tired from a long day on the road so I decided to find a place to stay and crash.

After my bud Desi googled some hostels in San Francisco for me (thanks by the way) I got a room at the Globetrotter hostel. I’ve heard horror stories about hostels, but I’ve also heard a few great stories about hostels from a buddy of mine Dennis from home. I wanted to check it out first hand and make my own judgment about them. For me it started off great, I had a nice room with a girl from Germany and a couple from southern France. If you’re not familiar with the Hostel lifestyle basically what happens is you pay a low rate for a room and you have roommates. It’s almost like college again. In the US most of the people who stay at Hostels are from overseas. I was the only American besides some of the workers who were from the states. They get a bad reputation because sometimes there is theft and some movies that I haven’t seen. Before going to sleep I got to know the French couple in my room. They have an amazing story. They lived in England for the past two years, he was a waiter she was an alcohol curator for a night club. The last two years they have been saving up for this incredible trip that they have just embarked on. A one year trip that includes the western coast of the United States, parts of Asia, some Caribbean Islands, and Australia where they will find jobs and spend half a year. That is BALLSY. They are great together and lucky to have each other. I wish you both the best of luck and I will make sure to get in touch with you if I do get to the south of France after your trip is done with.
